I received my March water bill. I was charged $184 for service. I have a 1 1/2" meter for a residence. the larger meter was required because the city of Monterey requires fire sprinklers. My water usage was $15. Other charges $70

Taxes $19 Grand total increase from previous bill $212. This means I will pay about $3600 per year for water for a small 3 studio unit apt building. I will also pay the same amount for my personal residence. This is outrageous. Commercial water users who have 1 1/2" meters pay $99 for service. I knew water rates were going to increase. I received the postcard of the smiling family. I was blind sided when I received my bill. I have not budgeted for this. I will have to raise tenants rent when their leases expire. In the meantime I have to pay property taxes, mortgages, other utilities, repairs etc. People wonder why rents are so high. It starts with over overzealous building regulations that can be onerous. and expensive. Anyway I am going to contact a lawyer for a possible lawsuit against Cal Am and the PUC.

Good to see PWN growing into its website. Please consider running “other stories” about the anti-fracking effort in MC to protect local water.
