How Missoula Took Their Water Public!

Mayor John Engen and City Manager Dale Bickell

Missoula, Montana is home to to 71,000 people who were able to buy back their water system. In 1979, its private water utility was sold to Park Water Company in Downey, California, which became a subsidiary of The Carlyle Group in 2011.

In 2015, the City of Missoula was legally granted its right to acquire the water system by exercising its power of eminent domain. Our guests from Missoula will tell us their story, how the issue emerged, the process of the eminent domain proceedings and much more.

This has great relevance to the Monterey Peninsula right now!
